Platform Layer: Transport active

Cresco

Cresco is the team’s open-source distributed agent framework (Apache-2.0 since 2015) and the transport for everything on the platform. Its agents link isolated resources, from an edge device or a single server to a campus cluster, the state data center, or a commercial cloud account, into one mesh that starts work and moves datasets or computation across environments under each site’s access controls.

Key capabilities

  • A global, regional, and agent hierarchy with an embedded message broker, so the mesh reaches from microcontrollers to servers
  • Resources that participants bring, from a company’s on-premises servers to a cloud account, join the mesh through Cresco agents and are used under their owner’s tenant, isolated from all other tenants
  • Security from per-node X.509 certificates, mutual TLS, and distributed regional certificate authorities
  • Agent-to-agent relay routing, on by default
  • Measured at 315,000 flows per second streaming and 2.6 million records per second

Cresco is the bottom of the stack, and everything else runs over it: GaiaKeep storage, the toolkit platforms, Astral agents, and PanAtlas.
