The University of Kentucky’s Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) has been dissolved, and the center is migrating to the Kentucky Center for Digital Innovation (KCDI) at the University of Louisville. The platforms, models, and projects the center built continue here on Kentucky Open Science.
CAAI worked with researchers and collaborators at every level on transdisciplinary applied research for the health, wellness, and economic future of Kentucky. It was part of UK’s Institute for Biomedical Informatics and brought together the IBI Innovation Core, formed in 2020, and the College of Medicine’s AI in Medicine (AIM) Alliance, funded in 2021.
This was the last executive report we produced before dissolving CAAI and migrating the center to KCDI. It covers the center’s mission, operations, capabilities, and results.
Open the reportKCDI is a University of Louisville center in the Office of Research and Innovation, launched in July 2026 with $10 million in state funding. Its stated mission is “advancing cybersecurity and artificial intelligence through cutting-edge research, workforce development and industry collaboration.”
